Aydarkul Lake

Aydarkul Lake, located in the heart of the Kyzylkum Desert, is a true natural wonder and not a mirage as one might think at first glance. Its crystal-clear waters and origins are mysterious, yet there is a scientific explanation. Previously, excess drainage waters were discharged into the Arnasay Hollow, creating a saline land. However, in the summer of 1969, the extremely high water levels of the Syrdarya River exceeded the capacity of the Chardarya Reservoir, resulting in water filling the Arnasay Hollow and creating the Aydarkul Lake. With the formation of the lake, a diverse ecosystem developed, including a variety of fish species.

Today, Aydarkul Lake covers an area of approximately 3,000 square kilometers, with a length of nearly 250 kilometers and a width ranging from 8 to 15 kilometers. The area surrounding the lake is ideal for walks and horseback or camelback rides. The fauna around the lake is rich and diverse, with alpine grasslands blooming in a variety of colors in spring and summer, including bright-red tulips and snowy-white acacia. High in the mountains, black storks build their nests, a bird species listed in the Red Book of many countries. During early spring, when the Arnasay area is filled with water, thousands of ducks, geese, pelicans, and herons flock to the lake.

Aydarkul Lake offers a range of recreational activities for tourists, including fishing, swimming, and sunbathing. The lake is known for its abundance of fish species, including zander, catfish, carp, and others, making it a popular destination for fishing enthusiasts from around the world. Just a few kilometers from the lake, there are yurt camps where tourists can experience the local culture, enjoy traditional cuisine, and take camel rides, adding to the adventure and charm of the Aydarkul Lake experience.
