Babur Park

Zakhiriddin Mukhammad Babur Park:

Celebrating the Legacy of an Oriental Ruler

Zakhiriddin Mukhammad Babur, a pivotal figure in Uzbekistan’s rich history, stands as a renowned ruler and commander in Central Asian annals. His legacy extends beyond his lifetime, with the empire he founded enduring for more than three centuries. Babur not only left an indelible mark on the history of the East but also contributed significantly to world literature through his masterpiece, the “Babur-name.”

In Babur’s native city of Andijan, a comprehensive memorial park complex graces Bagishamol hill in the southeast. This expansive park, dedicated to Zakhriddin Mukhammad Babur, transcends a mere memorial; it is an architectural and historical marvel. According to historical accounts from the “Babur-name,” the illustrious Andijan architect Mavlono Fazliddin, commissioned by Babur, constructed a meditation summerhouse where the young ruler sought solace and repose.

The heart of the park is the Babur House-Museum, a repository of rare exhibits intimately connected to Babur and the Baburids’ lives. Visitors can explore Babur’s literary heritage within the museum, delving into the writings of this multifaceted figure. Central to the park is Babur’s symbolic shrine, featuring an immured piece of earth from Agra, the place where the ruler died and was laid to rest.

Beyond its historical significance, Babur Park captivates with its diverse flora. The park boasts over 50 species of trees and a stunning array of flowers, creating a lush and vibrant environment. A ropeway ascends to the hilltop of Bogishamol, offering visitors a breathtaking panorama of the park and the city below.

Andijan Park, bearing Babur’s name, is a pilgrimage site for thousands of enthusiasts drawn to honor the memory of this oriental ruler, poet, and commander. In Uzbekistan’s literary pantheon, Zakhiriddin Mukhammad Babur shares distinction with great luminaries such as Amir Timur, Ulugbek, and Alisher Navoi. Monuments to Babur grace cities across the country, with streets, parks, and avenues proudly carrying his name. Andijan, forever etched in people’s minds, holds a special place as the cherished homeland of Babur. The Zakhiriddin Mukhammad Babur Park serves as a living testament to a legacy that continues to inspire and resonate across generations.
