I’ve been to many solar facilities around the world, but the Solar Furnace of Parkent tour added a cultural twist to a technological marvel, making for a truly captivating day. Being able to peer into the focal point of the furnace (with safety equipment, of course) was like staring into the power of the sun itself. The scale of the mirror array was staggering! While the facility is showing its age, the juxtaposition of retro-tech with modern science provided a unique charm. Our lunch was a fantastic spread showcasing local Uzbek cuisine – a great complement to the day. My only wish was for more time at the facility to delve deeper into the technical aspects. Regardless, it’s an excellent excursion for anyone visiting the region.

My family and I chose the Solar Furnace tour as part of our eco-tourism focus through Central Asia, and it did not disappoint! It was a fantastic opportunity for our kids to see renewable energy in action. The live demonstrations were eye-opening; to actually see metal melting before our eyes just using sunlight was a powerful demonstration of what our planet could achieve with solar energy. The guides were friendly and patient with all our questions, and the facility itself was a phenomenal relic bridging Soviet history and futuristic technology. I’d recommend this to anyone interested in science or concerned about the environment. Plus, the sunset on the way back to Tashkent was simply breathtaking!

After attending a conference in Tashkent, I stumbled upon the Solar Furnace of Parkent tour offered by Sunrise Tours. I was absolutely blown away by the experience! The drive from Tashkent was filled with beautiful landscapes, and our guide, Alisher, was exceptionally knowledgeable, providing a rich tapestry of history and science. Witnessing the power of the sun at work, melting and forging at temperatures I couldn’t even fathom, was nothing short of spectacular. Moreover, the Uzbek lunch provided was delicious – those savory samsas will linger in my memory as much as the furnace’s glare! Highly recommended for those looking for a unique day trip filled with education and adventure.
