Emir Madrasah

There is the Emir Madrasah in the city of Kokand, which was built in the 18th century. It was made in the classical strict style. The length of the facade was 30 meters and its width was 21 meters. It was decorated with an ornament of geometric figures with majolica of various colors and plant ornaments.

Inside the madrasah there was a cozy courtyard of 16×18 meters. On the square perimeter there are hujras. One side of the building is given for educational premises and rooms of students, the second – for the mosque. Both the mosque and study rooms are crowned with blue domes. The madrasah together with student rooms and the mosque were under a blue large dome.

During Soviet times the madrasah was closed, but today it is a functioning one. It is open for all believers and of course for tourists who are interested in historical monuments of Kokand.
