The Madari Khan Mausoleum

This religious complex was constructed in 1825 for Umarkhan, a notable figure in Kokand. He is also associated with the poet Nadira, who was his wife. Nadira’s fate was tragic; she was executed on the orders of Emir Nasrallah of Bukhara. To honor her memory, a white marble and bronze monument was erected near the mausoleum.

The Madari Khan Mausoleum is a small, yet striking, structure with a domed portal and small faceted minarets. It is situated behind the cemetery. The portal is decorated with unique brickwork, and the tile patterns feature vibrant colors like yellow, red, and green, setting it apart from other Eastern monuments. The focus of the craftsmen was primarily on the intricate decoration, making the shrine a masterpiece of artisanal skill rather than just architectural prowess.
